Plot Twist

This is one of the greatest plot twists I've encountered this year- heck, in five years. This girl surprised me. I'm a person who tries to be sociable, especially after complains that I was acting like a snob. So as much as possible I try to be cheery and engaging. One evening I ran into this girl I knew. "Hello, how you doing?" Her reply was discomfiting "Stop it. I don't like you greeting me" Like 589 separate thoughts flew through my mind simultaneously. See my life outside, I thought to myself. I must be social, I must be social now see as this small girl is yarning me dust. She continued "I'm younger than you are, I should be the one to always greet you first. When you greet me first I feel awkward" "Is that so?" I asked, as the building fire in my stomach started dying. "Yes" "I can't promise that, but you shouldn't feel awkward anytime I say hi first" Plot Twist! Humans are insatiab

Walk like you

Okay, so a lot of people used to tell me I walk funny (actually arrogantly) back during my undergraduate days. Some even said I was doing like an old king. Sometime last term I was walking to my desk from the school shop were I had gone to get a drink. As I walked, I noticed a shadow poking mine, looking back I saw one of my students. She was doing a funny kind of walk. It was exaggeratedly arrogant and full of swagger. She raised her shoulders in mock pride and was approaching me in slow motion all the while trying to suppress the laughter building in her. It was awful awkward. I stood there rooted in a mix of surprise and curiosity. I squinted to protect my eyes from glare of the mid afternoon sun and tilted my head. "Jade what are you doing?" My reaction was the pin that burst the balloon holding her laughter. She let our a stream of quiet rapid giggles. "Sir, I'm copying the way you walk" "Say what? 😦" "This is how you do" She th

I Did Not Choose This

I did not choose this life This life chose me The work I do now, I do not think I am qualified in any way to do. Perhaps however I underestimate myself (something I do a lot). That I am here now means I have to remain and give my best to it. I do not despair and feel sad that I am a teacher, far from it. Many people may feel ashamed if they were in my shoes, a few other "extra sensitive" people feel ashamed on my behalf and pray I get a more rewarding job. Please, what is more rewarding than seeing a bunch of tiny tots gobbling up every word you spit out? I'm not saying it in a disgusting way. I just mean teaching is a rewarding experience and I don't regret it. I feel it is like a process that is required of me before I'm admitted into the next phase of life. Which perhaps may be parenthood. My experiences as a teacher have taught me patience, perseverance, love and how to accept feedback via non traditional channels. I've learned to repeat something over

Letters In a Glass Bottle X

Dear son, This is it! The finale. I have nothing much to say, go through all I have written and learn. Life is hard presently and I'm off to get a better life for you so I'm starting companies and what not. I'm not just doing it for you but myself also, and your mother. Cheers to the impending good life. Ensure you learn everyday. Dad

Letters In a Glass Bottle IX

Dear son, Here are a few proverbs I've invented to pass across very important messages. "A lizard in Lafia will still be a lizard in Lafiagi". This means that you'll always be who you are no matter where you go. If you're mediocre in Lafia you'd still be mediocre in Lafayette. You can not truly change except you decide from within to. Well if we were a reptilian family we'd be fire breathing dragons anyway not puny lizards. "That Loko and Lokoja sit on the same river Benue doesn't make them the same town" That you're going through the same situation with others doesn't mean you're the same. Heck you won't even have the same destination. Always bear in mind that you are unique. We learn everyday. Hope you have learnt something. Love Dad

Be Adventurous! Son, Life has many sour points that may never be your doing. What about the good times? Few mat not be your doing but many of the good times you have in your life are direct results of your choices and actions. Your happiness is your responsibility. If you're like your dad, you're definitely an Adventurous chap. Let me share a few items off my bucket list of Adventurous stuff I believe I will enjoy doing. Note: the greatest joy comes from knowing and walking with the Lord. Everything is is secondary. Here we go: 1. Owning a quad bike and going on off road rides. Probably off road racing too. 2. Flying a drone. 3. Owning and riding a horse. 4. Filming an action sci-fi flick. 5. Penthouse chilling with your mum and your siblings on family special days. 6. Traveling around the world with you. Live a good life, don't let the pressures of life get to you. Let's see some of the items on your bucket list. Your dad.

Tough Times Await You Son, We're in really tough times. That's why you've not heard from me in a while. That aside, I got a job that keeps me busy and pays me an honest man's wage. Things in the country are not going anywhere good. The economy is in a recession and inflation is hard. People are suffering and finding it difficult to feed. Many people have not been paid for months. It is in this quagmire we find ourselves at the moment. To add to the mess, our president is ill and has not made any serious appearance in about a month. Now you know what's up, bear in mind tough times will come upon you too. I'm not promising you a luxurious life however you're assured of a good life (which will not be devoid of tough times). What do you do when tough times come upon you? 1. Pray (for it to end or for the grace to live through it). 2. Prepare (tough times don't last because they could get tougher) 3. Innovate (look for extra sources of dough) 4. Adapt

Read and Read Son, Readers are leaders it is said. As soon as you learn to read, learn to read. Read as much as you can. Reading aside listening is one of the easiest ways to learn. We read the experiences of others, we read about the world and we even have the privilege of reading the mind of God from the Bible. A lot of the knowledge I have today, do not come from classrooms or experience, they come from books I have read. This is why my collection of books is the most prized of my earthly possessions. I am very happy when I see you reading, this gives me the confidence that you will succeed in future. The books you read today are the building blocks of your wisdom tomorrow. Do not just read to pass exams and do not make the mistake of limiting your reading and knowledge to school books alone. Read wide and read aplenty. This has helped me be the man I've become. Learn from this. Love Your dad

Making Great Friendships Son, You must have heard me repeatedly say that nothing beats family and friends, not even the houses and the cars. Friends are the family you have the opportunity of choosing for yourself they say. And your friends can make or mar your life for you. Lemme be honest with you, we can not be friends with everyone, however we can be friendly and polite to all. We should not even keep enemies as Christians. Sometimes it happens that you discover that some friendships are not in your best interest, what do you do? You step it down. There are close friends, there are buddies, there's friends and then the least - acquaintances. So if a friend is having negative fx (effects) on you, you keep your distance and then push the friendships to acquaintance level perhaps. Don't make enemies of people who were once close to you. If things get to the worst you should still be on polite speaking terms. You get? You're probably going to make many friends from prim
