Letters in a Glass Bottle

Letters in a Glass Bottle

So I have decided to put together some of the lessons I’ve learnt in life in a 10 week epistolatory series called Letters in a Glass Bottle, it will contain a letter I’ll post every day to my future son sharing most importantly a few of the things I’ve on the way to becoming his dad. Truly, it’s honest, heartfelt correspondence with someone I’ll share a deep connection with in future but most of all it contains my ideas and opinions about current happenings which I want to put down for all history. Everything that will go down here really happened, maybe like a few names will change to protect their identities and protect the integrity of the series from their influence. Some secrets may spill but well, that is less load for me.

Yo, for real son for every letter you see addressed this is not just your dad exploring a new writing style, this is me pouring out my experiences and hoping you learn from my very few mistakes (that’s an obvious lie) and get wiser in your days. Some of the opinions I have now may change before we eventually meet but at least you get to have a look at my thought processes when I was at this stage of my very eventful life.

Hey hey, ladies that most of the letters addressed your brother doesn’t mean much, you are all in the scheme of things. If you ever think of beefing me over that, know that your brothers go to bed every night wondering who among them I had in mind when I wrote this. I saved you that stress, thank me. You’re welcome. Daddy loves you.

Falling: Of Risks and Losses

Credit: Jerry X Based on true life events The events described herein happened to a bosom friend of mine. It is with his sad commission that I share this story. He believes that by some stroke of good fortune, this story could be a way out of his sadness. This the story of my beloved friend whom I shall not name to protect his identity. My friend met this lady at a professional engagement about this time last year. In his words “I caught sight of her when she stood up to introduce herself. She just stood out from the crowd. She was not just beautiful but she spoke intelligently. I knew if I did not get her number, I'd have fallen hand”. He further confided that I served as extra motivation. That he knew that if he let her go, I'd not tolerate any made up stories. While I feel humbled, I must clarify that I do not push my friends to go a-philandering. I just detest sloppiness, timidity and inferiority complex. So when my friend brought news of his new acqu...

Ethereal Music: My Top 7

I feel am in Ether. What's Ether? Actually the question should be "where is Ether?" It a place deep airy place in my mind that I retreat into when I meditate and have those out of the world floaty floaty thoughts. Here are my Top 7 song for the last week in random order. 1. Imogen Heap - Hide and Seek This accapella song just gets to me in a very special way, most especially the part she sings "watcha say". Like am so much into a song with no beats! How amazing. Unfortunately, all her other songs don't appeal to me. 2. Maazid feat. Joy - Merry Go Round I never get tired of this song, it has been my consolation when my ship sail through dire straights. The fact that Maazid is in my school just makes the song closer to my situation. I don't know the dude but he sure thinks like me. Sorry this song doesn't have an album art. 3. High Society - Devil Pheeww, this song by them Sho Baraka, Swoope and crew has repeatedly been on repeat. I ...

Let it Grow

I watched the film The Lorax last weekend and I must admit: I was touched. In the film there is a town where the air is polluted so people have to buy clean air and there were no trees. It takes the determination of a little boy to convince the town’s folk to let him plant a tree and let it grow. The environment is continuously damaged by human activities. It is so bad that some Chinese fear the air they breathe. Cancer is one of the leading killer diseases there. Their problem we may say, but environmental issues are not always like that. The mess is made in one country; the effect is felt in more than one country. For instance some of the air pollutants in Los Angeles USA originate from China. The floods we had in Nigeria last year were due to release of excess water in Cameroun! Environmental issues have been largely ignored in our society, until the floods of October last year came. Climate change is for real and the time to act is now, we do not need to consult any Ma...
