Books! I read quite a lot and books are food for my brain.
Here are my favourite brain feed, most of them are old school,
that notwithstanding I enjoy reading them over and over
without ever getting bored. Some of them, I read just once and
the impact has been lifelong.
1. The Bible
Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth. This book authored
by God through some ordained peoople contains instructions
on having a fulfilling life and enjoying a relationship
with God. It also has expert advice on love, relationships,
parenting and inter human coexistence. Its a book you should
read daily. Its more of food for the soul.
2. Pilgrims Progress
Authored by John Bunyan, this book is a timeless classic. It
chronicles the adventures a believer embarks upon from the
moment he becomes a christian to the time he walks into
eternity. The symbolism employed in this book is genius.
3. John Ploughman's Talk
This comes highly recommended from me to you. Its aptly a
book of commom sense. My dad told me it was recommended text
for them during their secondary school days. This book was
written by the preacher C H Spurgeon. This book is and its
sequel John Ploughman's Picture are very hard to come by
in book stores (despite all the simplemindedness around).
You can get a free PDF copy online though, like I did.
4. Letters From Hell
I read this book just once, so the author's name is lost
to memory. Well this novel is an epistolary one. It
chronicles an exchange of correspondence between two Demons;
one in hell the other in Africa, on the field actually,
attached to a young boy called... John. The book is humorous
and spiritual at the same time.
5.The Passport of Mallam Illia
In my over sabi I have always thought it should be spelt
Illiya not Illia. Its a book by Cyprian Ekwensi. The book is
just the bomb. It tells the story of Ibrahim Illia who spends his life
chasing Usman to avenge the death oof his wife. His quest though a
success leaves him wasted. I wonder how come a movie has not been made it.
6. Things Fall Apart
Written by our very own Chinua Achebe of blessed memory. Yáll
know the book. May his soul rest in peace.
Honourable Mention
These books are quite cool though not as the first six.
1. Tales Out of School (Can't remember the author's name)
2. Bottled Leopard (Chukwuemeka Ike)
3. Piercing the Darkness (Frank Perretti?)
4. Rural Development Planning Notes by our Lecturers at school
(lol....just kidding. I'd be crazy if a lecture note is ever on my
fav book list.
Today's post may appear like a programmer's script in your PC, I typed it using Notepad. MS Word is falling my hand.
